Permission to Rest

If you’re an entrepreneur or just a busybody, you may feel like you are constantly burning the midnight oil, navigating through challenges, and striving for some shred of progress. I am here to remind you that – Growth isn't a sprint, it's a marathon, and marathon runners know the importance of pacing. Just like our bodies, our minds and spirits need a breather too. While ambition is admirable, it's equally important to grant ourselves permission to rest and prioritize self-care on the journey of personal development.

We live in a society that glorifies the hustle but it can be challenging to recognize that we need rest. Rest is not a sign of weakness, it’s quite the opposite, being a crucial component of building resilience and maintaining overall well being.

Rest allows our mind, body, and soul to recharge. When we give ourselves what we need we are able to focus, enhance our creativity, and improve our overall motor skills. Let us not forget, that rest contributes to our emotional wellbeing, helping us effectively manage stress and prevent burnout.

Imagine you are tending to a garden full of plants, what happens when you neglect to water, give them sunlight, and love? The garden wilts. Rest isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Here are some practical tips you can incorporate into your daily life:

  1. Mindfulness: Take short breaks during the day for mindful breathing or a quick stroll. It's amazing how a few minutes of intentional pause can rejuvenate your spirit.

  2. Screen time: Block out some screen free time. Let your mind unwind from the digital buzz and rediscover the simplicity of quiet moments.

  3. Good night’s rest: It kind of goes without saying that sleep is an essential part of your growth routine. Quality rest is like the magic fertilizer for the seeds of your growth.

  4. Saying “No”: Learn the art of saying no! It’s not about missing out, it’s about making room for what truly matters.

  5. Have fun: Don’t forget the importance of having fun and seeing friends. Human connections matter and do wonders for our mental and physical health.

Giving yourself permission to rest is not a sign of weakness, it’s a declaration of self love and respect for your journey. The more you honor the rhyme of growth, the ebb and flow, the push and pause, the more resilient and vibrant you become.
